The Rise and Fall of a ’90s Star

The teenage celebrity wasn’t considering the repercussions at the time. He felt invincible at the height of his career. But as the years went by, his life grew more “crazy” and “chaotic.”

In the end, his agency recommended that he break away from Hollywood and go back to his birthplace of Vancouver in order to sober up. The actor finally made the independent decision to take a few years off from performing, despite his agency’s advice to slow down.

“I was excessively drunk, burned out, and partying too much. So I returned to Vancouver and sobered up,” he explained, explaining why he took a break from 2004 to 2009.

The actor acknowledged that it was difficult but important to leave the flash and glamour of Hollywood, saying, “At 25 years old, I stepped away from the business for five years and most of the time didn’t know whether I was going to come back or not.”

A Return to the Spotlight
