Hollywood Exit: Cameron Diaz Opens Up About Finding Peace and Happiness Beyond the Spotlight
|Cameron Diaz rose to fame in Hollywood through iconic movies such as “The Mask,” “There’s Something About Mary,” “Shrek,” and “Charlie’s Angels.” However, after a hiatus from the movie scene, fans were left wondering about her whereabouts. The reason became clear in 2017 when she made the decision to step away from acting to prioritize her family and personal life. Now, she’s making a comeback!
Even during her break from Hollywood, Cameron Diaz remained in the public memory as one of the most famous actresses ever. Her films grossed over $3 billion in the US, ranking her as the fifth-highest-grossing actor, and she received four Golden Globe nominations.
In the early 2010s, Diaz enjoyed considerable success. By 2013, she was the highest-paid actor over 40 in Hollywood. However, after starring in three films in 2014, including “The Other Woman,” “Sex Tape,” and “Annie,” she chose to step away from the spotlight to focus on her personal life.

Cameron Diaz married musician Benji Madden from Good Charlotte, and in 2019, they welcomed their daughter Raddix through surrogacy. Diaz explained her decision to stop acting in an interview with Gwyneth Paltrow, expressing a desire for a different life that allowed more time for her personal life.
Being a movie star, Diaz noted, was demanding due to the intense schedule. She said, “When you’re making a movie, it’s the perfect excuse. They own you. You’re there 12 hours a day for months on end. You have no time for anything else.” Diaz also realized that she had allowed others to control parts of her life and needed to take charge herself.
During her break from acting, Cameron Diaz authored two popular health books, “The Body Book” and “The Longevity Book.” Although she enjoyed her time away and didn’t regret leaving Hollywood, she recently decided to return to acting.
In her upcoming Netflix movie, “Back in Action,” Diaz will star alongside Jamie Foxx. Her decision to return was influenced by the opportunity to work with Foxx again, as they had collaborated on projects like “Any Given Sunday” and “Annie” before. Diaz clarified that her family remains her top priority, and her return to acting is temporary.
