Julia Schlaepfer Expresses Interest in an Alexandra Dutton Spinoff: ‘I’d Follow Her Anywhere’

Julia Schlaepfer, star of 1923, exclusively shares with Life & Style her hope for a potential spinoff centered around her character, Alexandra Dutton, as season 2 of the Paramount+ series may be its last.

“I would love it; I’d play Alex forever if I could,” Julia, 29, says, expressing excitement at the prospect of a spinoff for the British royal who marries Brandon Sklenar’s Spencer Dutton. “Who knows what Taylor Sheridan has in store,” she adds, referring to the prolific creator of 1923 and its prequels, 1883 and 1923, set in the Yellowstone universe.

Season 1 of 1923 saw Spencer and Alexandra fall in love and marry after meeting on an African safari. In season 2, the couple returns to the Dutton family ranch in Montana.

“Season 1, we were in Africa and Malta, which was such an amazing experience as an actor. Filming with the animals in Africa was incredible, and as Alex saw an elephant for the first time, I shared in that awe,” Julia reflects. “Malta provided us with huge water tanks for swimming scenes, and we spent a lot of time in Montana and Texas — it’s been such a memorable journey.”

Julia hopes that viewers, especially young people, can relate to her character, Alexandra, a posh royal whose life dramatically changes when she marries an American rancher.

“I understood Alex’s pressure to appear perfect. Many young women today feel that pressure, with society’s expectation of perfection,” the actress explains. “I also understood her desire to break free and live spontaneously. It was exciting to play a character who let her impulses run wild, especially in Africa with Spencer.”

Julia, who can’t share her favorite moment from season 2 due to spoilers, highlights the strong bond formed with the 1923 crew. “The crew became like family to me,” she says. “We all cared deeply about Alex’s journey, and we supported each other every day, which was the most special part of my experience.”

While Paramount+ hasn’t confirmed if 1923 will end with season 2, Brandon Sklenar, 34, hinted that the series was designed for a two-season arc. “I knew where this was headed before we filmed season one,” he shared. “Taylor didn’t give me the specifics, but I had an idea. I’ve always known how it would wrap up in season 2. But there’s definitely more Dutton story to tell.”
