Dolly Parton Shares How She Spent Her First Wedding Anniversary Since the Death of Husband Carl Dean

The Country Legend Honors a Lifetime of Love with a Heartfelt Tribute in Georgia

Country music icon Dolly Parton recently opened up about an emotional milestone—her first wedding anniversary without her beloved husband, Carl Dean, who passed away on March 3, 2025, at the age of 82.

In a candid interview with Fox News’ America Reports, the 79-year-old singer revealed how her faith, memories, and long-standing traditions helped her cope with the heartbreaking absence of her partner of nearly six decades.

“My faith has helped me through it all,” Parton shared. “Even though I lost him on this earthly plane… knowing that I will see him again – knowing that he’s in God’s arms now and not mine – he’s still in my heart and in my memories.”

A Tradition Continued in His Memory

Dolly and Carl were married on May 30, 1966, at a small church in Ringgold, Georgia. Every year, the couple celebrated their anniversary with a quiet picnic at the same church where they exchanged vows.

Despite the sorrow of his passing, Dolly kept the tradition alive. This year, she returned to that very church—alone but surrounded by love. She wore Carl’s wedding band on a chain around her neck, and her own ring still adorned her finger.

“That’s where I spent our anniversary, my first one without him,” she said through tears. “I’ve got to go back and take a picture on the same steps at that same church. I felt like he was there with me… It was just so sweet. It was good for me.”

Remembering Carl Dean

Dolly announced Carl’s passing through a heartfelt message shared on social media:

“Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years.”

Only days later, she made a surprise public appearance at Dollywood’s 40th anniversary celebration, thanking fans for their support and tributes.

“You know how I loved him. He would want me to be working today,” she told the crowd. “I will always love him. And I will always miss him.”

A Love Story That Endures

Though Carl Dean lived a private life away from the spotlight, his presence in Dolly’s world was constant, quiet, and deeply cherished. As she marks her first year without him, Dolly continues to carry his memory with grace, strength, and enduring love.

Dolly Parton has spoken lovingly about her late husband many times since his passing, but her recent interview with Fox News stands out for its deep emotion.
