Actor Michael Madsen has filed for divorce after 28 years of marriage.

Michael Madsen has decided to end his marriage to DeAnna Madsen, with whom he has not lived for some time. The actor cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for his decision, claiming they separated shortly after their son, Hudson, took his own life on January 25, 2022.

He filed the documents on September 17 in Los Angeles, noting that the marriage took place on April 15, 1996. In a statement he signed, the actor accused his (ex-)wife of having led their son to take his own life through “neglect, drinking, and alcoholism,” according to People.

Madsen is represented by his long-time attorney, Perry Wander, and he has requested a restraining order against DeAnna due to domestic violence allegations, denying that he was violent towards her. He emphasized that DeAnna significantly contributed to his personal problems and stated that he was a victim in a violent, dependent, and toxic relationship, which culminated when his wife broke into his house. He claims he was unjustly arrested for domestic violence.

Recall that the actor was arrested on August 17 under California Penal Code provisions for spousal abuse, with a bail set at $20,000. Two days later, his spokesperson said Michael had returned home. Later that week, Madsen’s attorney told The Hollywood Reporter that the actor confronted his estranged wife and “asked her to leave the house, adding that this has been an ongoing issue.”

DeAnna Madsen stated, “Michael is struggling with his personal issues. Our kids and I have supported him as much as we could. We would ask for privacy at this time.”

The former couple has three children together, including Hudson, as well as two sons from Michael’s previous relationship.
