Brooke Shields’ daughter wore her mother’s 1997 wedding dress to prom and looked absolutely stunning: Yet, one paradox caught everyone’s attention, which many see as the ultimate insult to the actress’s ex-husband!
|The cyclical nature of fashion, even when it comes to wedding dresses, is perfectly illustrated by the example of Hollywood actress Brooke Shields and her 18-year-old daughter Grier. This June, Grier graduated from high school and attended her prom in none other than her mother’s wedding dress from 1997.
“My prom dress was my mom’s first wedding dress,” Brooke Shields revealed in a recent interview with People. Grier added that she made some alterations to the beautiful champagne-colored gown to make it more modern and stylish. “We had to tailor and corset the dress to make it more structured and elegant. We also removed the lining because I didn’t want the bottom to be puffy,” she explained.
“We also took off the straps… She looked amazing in it. I’m honored when they want to wear my things. Usually, they don’t think I’m cool,” Brooke added. “Honestly, they can wear anything of mine just to give it a second life—you hold onto things and eventually wonder why. Is there going to be some big auction for them? I doubt it unless they are iconic pieces. So, it feels good to give them new life,” the actress shared.
Grier completed her prom look with a vintage wristwatch, white heels, and striking pearl earrings and necklace. She truly hit the mark, looking glamorous yet appropriately delicate and age-appropriate.

However, this choice surprised some social media commentators, as Brooke originally wore this wedding dress when she married her first husband, Andre Agassi, who is not Grier’s father. The former couple divorced just two years later, and Brooke remarried Chris Henchy in 2001. Brooke and Chris are still together today and have another daughter, Rowan, in addition to Grier.

The actress sees nothing strange in this decision; in fact, she believes it shows that there’s no bad blood between her and her ex-husband, despite their tumultuous relationship. “He’s a good guy, so this was really a full-circle moment. It honors something, and I think that’s healthy,” she commented.

Interestingly, Brooke’s older daughter Rowan also wore one of her mother’s old dresses to her prom in 2021, choosing a red gown designed by Richard Tyler that Brooke wore to the Golden Globe Awards in 1998.
