Carrie Underwood Shares Touching Duet with 5-Year-Old Son on ‘The Little Drummer Boy

If your family was anything like mine when you were growing up, you likely have your own carefully curated collection of Christmas favorites.

Mariah Carey and Wham! were off-limits in my household because my parents preferred traditional Christmas music. As a result, I’ll always hold a special place in my heart for those tunes that have withstood the test of time and evoke fond memories every time they’re played.

This sentiment became particularly evident the first time I heard Carrie Underwood and her child perform a charming duet of “The Little Drummer Boy.”

It’s safe to say that “The Little Drummer Boy” is a universally recognized classic. Although the song, as we know it today, was allegedly written in 1941 by Katherine K. Davis, the lyrics are said to have been inspired by a traditional Czech hymn.

Over the years, the song has been covered by numerous artists, including performances by Bing Crosby, Johnny Cash, and even Justin Bieber, much like other popular Christmas songs. While everyone may have a different favorite rendition of this well-known musical piece, each version offers something enjoyable. It’s a genuine classic for a reason, after all.

However, I cannot deny the overwhelming warmth I felt the first time I listened to Carrie Underwood’s 2020 rendition, a performance she recorded with her then-5-year-old son, Isaiah.

For those unfamiliar, Carrie Underwood is a country music legend who has consistently captivated and delighted audiences over the years. Fans were thrilled when she announced in 2020 that she would be releasing a Christmas album, perfect for everyone’s favorite holiday.

The album featured a captivating blend of Carrie’s original songs and beloved Christmas tunes. However, the eleventh track—yes, you guessed it—”The Little Drummer Boy”—truly stood out, at least to me.

Carrie delivered a truly amazing duet with her son Isaiah, who provided the well-known vocals and nailed it.
