Ellen DeGeneres Parts Ways with One of Her Final U.S. Properties Following Move to the English Countryside

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi continue to scale back their U.S. real estate portfolio as they part ways with another one of their properties.

The former talk show host, 67, and her wife, 52, recently sold their West Hollywood, California, home after listing it for $4,995,000. The charming Spanish-style bungalow features two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and spans 1,691 square feet, located just minutes from the picturesque Butterfly Beach.

The home went into escrow on Thursday, March 20. A representative from Riskin Partners Estate Group, which handled the listing, told PEOPLE that the property received “multiple offers within two days” of hitting the market and ultimately sold for $5.2 million.

Tucked away in the Montecito area, the serene coastal retreat was designed to offer peace and privacy. According to the listing, it includes spa-inspired bathrooms that open to a secluded courtyard, a private terrace, and a tranquil enclosed patio, all tailored for seamless indoor-outdoor living.

Per Architectural Digest, the midcentury-modern residence, originally built in 1954 and renovated in 2012, was purchased by the couple in 2021 for $2.9 million. It marked the third property they had acquired in Montecito within a year.

Highlights of the home include a chef’s kitchen outfitted with limestone countertops, cherry wood cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, and floor-to-ceiling glass doors. A soundproof acoustic fence surrounds the property for added privacy and reduced street noise.

The sale comes shortly after the couple’s permanent move overseas. As previously reported by PEOPLE, DeGeneres and de Rossi officially relocated to the Cotswolds countryside in the U.K. in late 2024. A source revealed that Ellen had been searching for homes in October before finding the perfect one and making the move.

Known for her love of real estate, the sale isn’t surprising given DeGeneres’s long-standing reputation for flipping homes. In a 2023 interview with The Riv, a local publication, she revealed she’s bought and sold more than 50 homes. “I don’t travel much, so flipping houses is my way of exploring,” she said. “The scenery changes, but I stay grounded — just with a different view.”
