“Halloween Decorations Spark Controversy Among Wake Forest Community”
|In Wake Forest, a Halloween tradition has sparked controversy after several locals complained about a mummy decoration displayed outside a house on North Main Street. The decoration features a mummy in a bag, chained and hung upside down, which some residents found “offensive” and overly extreme for Halloween. The homeowner defended the prop, stating it has been part of his yard for three years and has attracted visitors who enjoy taking photos with it. The town clarified that the decoration was hung on a tree owned by the town, not on the homeowner’s property.
Town workers removed the controversial Halloween decoration and placed it on the homeowner’s porch. The homeowner expressed disappointment over the decision, noting that he has participated in Halloween celebrations in the Wake Forest historic district since 2013 and regretting that this year’s decoration caused offense.
He told WRAL News that he plans to continue with his annual Halloween festivities despite the controversy.
