Kathy Bates reveals shocking transformation, fans stunned by dramatic weight loss
|When viewers of the 2024 Emmy Awards saw a reduced-size Kathy Bates, they were taken aback.
The Matlock star, who disclosed she was “facing diabetes” prior to her drastic weight loss, acknowledges that she hasn’t “been this slim” since her undergraduate days.
posterposter, stating “she doesn’t look healthy” and “Ozempic has aged her,” fans are now conjecturing that the 76-year-old utilized a weight loss medication to lose 100 pounds.
In an interview with Variety from September 2024, she admits, “I have to admit I give an inner wink when I see friends who have been beauty queens who are no longer working because of ageism, and in my case, I’ve been able to continue working for many years because I don’t look like that.” “I don’t think I would have gotten the role in Misery if I had been a beauty queen,” she continues, alluding to her icy depiction of killer Annie Wilkes in Stephen King’s Misery.
What she did receive, though, was a reputation as an actor who can play a heartless evil with ease.
Hollywood villains Giancarlo Esposito and Anthony Starr presented an award with Bates, who won an Emmy in 2014 for her frightful portrayal of Madame Delphine LaLaurie in American Horror Story: Coven.
under a floor-length purple gown adorned with a thin coating of dark sequin that glinted under the strong lights of the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, Bates dazzled on stage.
She combined the style with her amazing new physique, which she got after losing 100 pounds.
‘Facing diabetes’
The About Schmidt actress previously talked to Extra about when she realized it was time to change her way of life.
She remarked, “I really didn’t want to live with diabetes because it runs in my family.”
In addition, Bates was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2003 and breast cancer in 2012. She experienced severe swelling following a double mastectomy, and losing weight helps reduce the symptoms of lymphedema.
‘I’m ashamed’
In an interview with Variety, the Oscar-winning performer revealed that she felt the most burdened by her excess weight while filming Harry’s Law, the courtroom comedy in which she featured from 2011 to 2012.
“I had to take a seat whenever I could. I had trouble walking. I feel bad for allowing myself to become so unfit.
A well-thought-out lifestyle adjustment was required.
“After eating for twenty to thirty minutes, you sigh uncontrollably. She told Extra that it’s the brain and stomach communicating that you’ve had enough. “And that’s what I found out: you know you’re full and don’t need to eat more if you listen to that sigh and move that plate away for just five minutes.”
“This is the best health I’ve had in years, and I’m so grateful—it’s a miracle,” she continues.
Bates remarks, “I have a tremendous amount of energy now,” in reference to her weight loss. “I’ve lost 100 pounds over the last six or seven years, and it’s really helped.”
“I don’t think I’ve been this slim since I was in college,” she continues.
‘Fabulous’ and ‘healthier’
Fans were astounded by the Dolores Claiborne star’s drastic weight loss when she made an appearance at the 2024 Emmy Awards.
Online people who voiced their opinions on social media complimented her skills and dedication to leading a healthy lifestyle.
“Amazingly beautiful and skilled actress! Kathy, get after them! One netizen writes, “She’s always been beautiful, but she’s healthier now,” while another says as much. Fantastic actress!
Some internet users conjectured that she may be using a medication that stimulates the brain’s satiety circuits, such as Wegovy or Ozempic, which are used to treat type 2 diabetes.
“It’s evident that the Olympic weight loss method is unhealthy. Only give it to diabetics who are supposed to be taking it. One commenter snaps, “Move and change your eating habits!” obligingly ignoring the performers’ prior diabetes-related health issues.
While one person writes, “Great actress but I think Ozempic has aged her,” another says, “I love Kathy Bates but Ozempic does not suit her.”
“Why has she lost so much weight?” queries a third. She doesn’t appear well.
Another says, “Make up your mind,” protecting the star. People are made fun of for being overweight, and then you make fun of them for turning to the one thing that has ever made their lives better. Contrary to popular opinion, exercise and diet plans don’t always work.
Bates stated, “My friends say I’ll probably be like Molière and die in my chair on the stage…because it really is a life force for me,” if you’re worried about the celebrity retiring.
