‘Scrubs’ Actress Stuns Fans with Slim Figure & Drastic New Look

The actress has long battled body image issues and food-related challenges, revealing that the pressure to look a certain way especially in show business has only fueled her anxiety.

Her struggles with self-perception and eating go all the way back to childhood. Over time, she built a steady wellness routine that helps manage these concerns. People often tell her she looks younger than she is an observation that highlights how much her appearance has evolved since she first entered Hollywood.

These physical changes reflect a much deeper personal journey. Before stepping into the spotlight, the Scrubs actress also known for her comedic talent was already facing insecurities around her body and food.

She grew up in a hockey-loving household, surrounded by athletic brothers who emphasized fitness. Reflecting on that period, she once noted, “As a young girl, that kind of thing can really mess with your head.”

Those early experiences shaped how the New Hampshire native approached the beauty and body standards of the entertainment world. Immersed in an industry obsessed with appearance, she quickly became aware of its unrealistic demands.

In one interview, she candidly shared how hard it is to work 12-hour days on set in tight dresses while dealing with digestive discomfort from even the smallest dietary misstep.

Managing these pressures hasn’t been easy especially for someone prone to anxiety. At 23, she overhauled her lifestyle, giving up sugar and alcohol, and embracing yoga, breathwork, and stretching. She once said it was “the best natural Ritalin” she could imagine.

These habits became vital for her balance and well-being. She openly said, “I’m an actress with food and body image issues that’s just the truth.” Her focus is on caring for her body naturally, with mindful food choices and self-awareness.

Even on demanding sets like the 2017 sci-fi comedy Future Man, she stuck to her strict routine while preparing for physically demanding stunt scenes.

The workouts were intense enough that the cast joked about getting too muscular. Eventually, she moved on from lifting weights to doing the Tracy Anderson Method three times a week sweat-heavy, dance-based workouts that she says are the only ones that ever worked for her.

She also hikes regularly, sometimes with a machete in hand, and begins her mornings with gentle yoga at 4 a.m., focusing on breath and flexibility. She follows this with a contrast shower switching between hot and cold water to help with hormonal and cardiovascular health.

Her first drink of the day? A freezing-cold blend of Shakeology greens, cacao, maca, and matcha. She prefers it “so cold it almost hurts your teeth.” Carefully monitoring what goes into her body is second nature at this point.

Years of food sensitivities led her to eliminate garlic, seeds (including chia and quinoa), avocados, coconut, and most nuts and legumes. Oddly, gluten remains one of the few things she can handle. She eventually transitioned to a vegan diet, having already been vegetarian since age nine.

Her ongoing digestion struggles have led her to explore natural remedies from superfood powders to experimental herbs. She once joked that her digestion was “like an infant’s at 36” and admitted to overeating certain foods when she found ones that worked.

Blueberries became her go-to sometimes three bowls a day not just for how they made her feel, but because she believes they support telomeres, the markers of aging in the body.

“People keep saying I look younger,” said the now 43-year-old, crediting the fruit. She later cut back to avoid new sensitivities but still sticks to a few staple snacks.

One favorite: rice cakes. Not trendy, but satisfying. She tops them with beans, Veganaise, arugula, tomatoes, and nutritional yeast though the toppings often fall apart mid-bite.

Another regular meal? Plain white rice with nutritional yeast, Himalayan salt, and Veganaise, creating a vegan, creamy risotto-like dish. And for a treat, she indulges in vegan cookies (Mookies), even when the ingredients—like oats or raisins—don’t sit well. “I just wear sweatpants and deal with it,” she laughed.

Eliza Coupe’s evolution isn’t just internal it’s highly visible. In early red carpet appearances, she had a fuller face, a strong, athletic build, and smooth, round features.

Her recent look is far more angular. On March 19, 2025, she walked the red carpet at Netflix’s The Residence premiere in a plunging gown that showed off her tattoos. Her face appeared sharper, her cheeks more hollow, and her collarbones more pronounced. She now wears a choppy shag cut with bangs, embracing an edgier, less polished style.

In a recent photo, she sported oversized glasses and a faux fur-lined coat far from her earlier glam image. Her dramatic transformation has sparked online chatter, with many saying she’s “unrecognizable.”

“This is just sad,” one user wrote. Another commented, “She looks totally different.” Others chimed in with, “Oh wow,” and “This is the look of someone who gave up too much for the industry.”

Beyond her appearance, Coupe’s personal life has shifted significantly. Her first marriage, to acting coach Randall Whittinghill, began in 2007. She once admitted she started dating him because he resembled Johnny Depp something he knew, and something she joked about.

After 12 years together and five years of marriage, Whittinghill filed for divorce in 2013. They had no children.

Shortly after, Coupe married author and wellness advocate Darin Olien in December 2014. They shared joyful moments—including a holiday abroad in New Zealand but in 2018, Olien filed for divorce.

Their marriage also ended childless, and the outcome of the split was unclear at the time. Coupe’s first divorce, however, had financial consequences: she was ordered to pay $7,000 a month in spousal support for two years, plus a lump sum of $306,000.
