This past weekend saw the entertainment community go into mourning with the news that actress Shannen Doherty, who was most renowned for her roles in shows like Charmed and 90210, had passed away from cancer.

The 53-year-old went into remission in 2017 after receiving successful treatment for her breast cancer, which was initially discovered in 2015.

However, Doherty informed her fans in 2019 that her illness had returned and was now in stage 4. And thus started a fresh battle for her life, one that, tragically, turned out to be lost.

Leslie Sloane, Doherty’s longtime publicist, confirmed the news in a statement shared with People on Saturday.

“Actress Shannen Doherty passed away, and I confirm this with heavy heart. After battling illness for many years, she lost her struggle on Saturday, July 13.

Doherty’s close friend Dr. Lawrence D. Piro has now disclosed the details of how the singer spent his last hours, characterizing her as “very comfortable.”

“She was surrounded by some of her very close friends in a place where she was very comfortable, sleeping, and transitioning in the last few hours,” Dr. Lawrence stated.
