In 1978, Sam and Katharine met while filming “The Legacy” in London, where they played a couple. Despite having a small role in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” almost a decade earlier, Sam never spoke to Katharine on the set because she was the leading lady. Katharine, then 71, claimed Cleo had verbally and emotionally abused her since childhood, with incidents of increasing violence from Cleo starting around age 12 or 13.

Despite this troubled history, on Christmas Day 2022, Cleo shared two Instagram pictures of her and Katharine bonding while building a puzzle together, indicating a reconciliation between mother and daughter.
