Simone Biles starved as child by addict mom, adopted by grandparents who ‘calm’ her in comps
|Following her historic victory in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Simone Biles posted an Instagram story on Tuesday, July 30, featuring Ronald Biles watching her participate.
Simone describes her biological granddad, who, along with his wife, adopted the athlete who is currently an eight-time Olympic medallist, as “my dad & his binoculars is soooo freaking cute.” The athlete was placed in foster care when she was just three years old.
The most decorated gymnast in America, Simone, talked candidly about her early years and how her biological mother, who was “struggling with drug and alcohol abuse,” was causing starvation for her and her brothers. Discover more about this motivational athlete by reading on!
Simone Biles, 26, was in foster care with her siblings Adria, Tevin, and Ashley long before she was flipping, launching, and spinning.
Shanon, Simone’s biological mother, was unable to provide for her four children due to her alcohol and drug addiction.
Shanon tells the Daily Mail, “It was hard to give up my kids but I had to do what I had to, I wasn’t able to care for them.” She also notes that the children’s father, who is also an addict, was not present.
In an interview with CNN, Simone opens up about her childhood and the “hardships” she went through with her drug-addicted mother.
“My siblings and I were placed in foster care because our biological mother was abusing drugs and alcohol.” She says to CNN, “I was three years old.
Even after twenty years, she can still clearly recall hungry.

In the video, she says, “I just remember, like, us as kids being so hungry and then I just remember this cat that would get fed and not like…us.” “After that, we were taken, and happily, we were able to stay in one foster family together. It was a truly amazing period of time. We were ecstatic.
Frequent visits from her parents, Ronald and Nellie Biles, who adopted Simone when she was six years old, and her younger sister Adria, who is now 24 years old, added to the excitement.
In her Facebook Watch series, Simone vs. Herself, Simone stated, “I wanted to take care of Adria because she was the baby.” “I simply felt that I had to watch out for her because, in the event that your family fails to do so, then who will?”
Ronald’s sister adopted and reared their siblings Tevin and Ashley in Cleveland, Ohio.

In Simone vs. Herself, Nellie talks about her adoptive daughter Simone and states, “I never, ever thought about gymnastics as a sport to put Simone in, that never entered my mind.” “It was a field trip, but it rained, so they went to Bannon’s Gymnastix instead of this farm or wherever else they were supposed to go.”
Simone provides her fans with additional details, confirming her mother’s recollection, stating that she was initially introduced to gymnastics while attending “daycare on a school trip.”
The athlete claims, “I don’t ever remember watching it on TV or seeing pictures in a magazine,” and she picked up the skill by “imitating” other females.
Since then, Nellie and Ronald have gone to every event to watch Simone dominate the field.
Simone admitted that she had a “bad habit” of searching the audience for her greatest cheerleaders and admitted that she would feel “kind of nervous” competing without her parents around.
“I don’t feel settled and at ease until I locate them amid the throng. I simply become incredibly fidgety, and knowing that they’re in the arena helps me to relax once I see them.
An expression of gratitude to my wonderful parents ❤️ for their unwavering sacrifices that have allowed me to fulfill my dreams. Above all, I would like to express my gratitude for your unwavering support at both my highs and lows. You people are the greatest of the best.I adore you all 🤎 picture.@jb45RdZoY3 on Twitter

The 2021 Tokyo Olympics was the only competition that the Biles pair missed because of COVID-19 rules preventing spectators from entering. At the end, Simone opted to withdraw from the women’s team final and the next four individual finals in order to focus on her health, as she was experiencing a condition known as the “twisties,” which is a condition in which the body and mind become disoriented.
Dad and his binoculars
Ronald and Nellie were accompanied by Simone’s husband Jonathan Owens, a football player who skipped the Chicago Bears’ training camp to support his wife (who got married in 2023), as they supported Simone and Team USA in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

She is aware of our seating arrangements, so it really doesn’t matter which competition we are in or where we are. I know she can hear me because I scream so loudly,” a beaming Nellie says in the Facebook video.
Simone was searching the Bercy Arena in Paris for her parents when she spotted Owens sitting next to Nellie, grinning broadly, and her father, whose face was covered by binoculars he was using to monitor his daughter.
