Soap Opera Star Deidre Hall Celebrates Motherhood at 75 After Overcoming Infertility
|Deidre Hall, renowned for her portrayal of Dr. Marlena Evans on Days of Our Lives, has long been cherished by fans for her beauty, talent, and maternal warmth. What many didn’t know were the unconventional methods the actress employed to achieve pregnancy at the age of 45.
The actress’s two adult children now display distinct personalities. Dr. Marlena Evans, portrayed by Hall for over 40 years, is considered one of the greatest television performers of all time, earning her accolades such as the America Women in Radio and Television Outstanding Television Role Model Award in 1994 and five Soap Opera Digest Best Actress Awards between 1982 and 1995.
Frances Reid, Hall’s co-star and mentor, played a pivotal role in her acting career. The actress acknowledged Reid’s influence on her, and their remarkable 34-year friendship came to an end with Reid’s passing in 2010.
In 2016, Hall was honored with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Television, a testament to her acting prowess guided by Reid’s mentorship. She became a celebrity ambassador for the Hallmark Company’s To Kids with Love card line and later a spokesperson for Dexatrim.

In her third marriage with author Steve Sohmer, they opted for surrogacy. Their surrogate, Robin, gave birth to David Sohmer in 1992, and Robin served as a surrogate again for their second child, Tully Sohmer.
The made-for-TV film Never Say Never: The Deidre Hall Story (1995) delved into Hall’s struggles with infertility, portraying the emotional challenges of surrogacy. Despite the difficulties, Hall has maintained a close relationship with her children, often sharing their photos on Instagram.
Hall, content with her life, expressed gratitude in 2019, stating that it was the best time ever. She emphasized her excellent health, love for her family, home, and garden, and an overall sense of fulfillment. When asked about future marriages, she replied with a definitive “No, no interest,” celebrating the positive outcome of her life journey.
