Mourning Suzanne Somers: The American actress has passed away. She died on Sunday, just one day before her 77th birthday. This was confirmed by her longtime spokesperson, R. Couri Hay, to the US portal ‘Page Six.’ The statement reads, ‘Suzanne Somers peacefully fell asleep at home in the early morning hours of October 15. She was surrounded by her loving husband, Alan, her son Bruce, and her closest family.’

Somers’ family had planned to come together on Monday to celebrate her birthday. Instead, they will now ‘celebrate her extraordinary life and thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly,’ the statement continues. A private family funeral will take place in the coming days, followed by a memorial service next month.

Cancer Diagnosis in the Summer In July, the actress made it public that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer again. ‘As many of you know, I had breast cancer two decades ago, and from time to time, it reappears, and I continue to fight against it,’ she wrote back then, alongside a photo on Instagram showing her affectionately with her husband, Alan Hamel.

Since her thirties, Suzanne Somers had been fighting cancer repeatedly. It began with skin cancer and later breast cancer. ‘I know how to put on my battle gear, and I’m a fighter,’ she had optimistically shown in the summer. However, this time, she couldn’t overcome the disease.

Suzanne Somers began her acting career in the seventies and appeared in successful series such as ‘Starsky & Hutch’ and ‘Three’s Company.’ However, she gained international fame mainly through the sitcom ‘Step by Step,’ which also became a TV hit in Germany during the nineties. For seven years, she portrayed the widow Carol, who, with Frank (Patrick Duffy), formed a blended, extended family.
