Valerie Bertinelli reveals new boyfriend, two years after divorce heartbreak – and you might recognize him

Valerie Bertinelli has found love again and recently confirmed her new relationship through a heartfelt Instagram post, signaling she’s no longer single.

The 63-year-old actress, who finalized her divorce from Tom Vitale two years ago and mourned the loss of her first husband, Eddie Van Halen, four years ago, made her new romance Instagram official last Friday. She shared a selfie with a caption featuring lyrics from Taylor Swift’s song “So High School,” which is rumored to be about Swift’s relationship with Travis Kelce.

“I’ll drink what you think and I’m high from smokin’ your jokes all damn night” Bertinelli captioned the photo.

Entertainment Tonight reports that Valerie’s new boyfriend is writer Mike Goodnough, who is known for his popular blog under the alias “The Hoarse Whisperer.”

Earlier this month, Bertinelli hinted at her new relationship during an interview with USA TODAY: “I’ve met someone. And I’m incredibly grateful for him.

“It’s unlike any relationship that I’ve ever experienced with a man. I don’t want to say too much, but I feel incredibly blessed and lucky to have met him. I was going to die with my six cats and my dog and be incredibly happy doing it.”

Goodnough confirmed the dating rumors in an essay titled “Rumors, Rumors, Rumors…” on his Substack this week. In a humorous style, he recounted asking “Ms. Bertinelli” if there was “any truth to the rumor you are dating me? Care to comment?”

To which she responded, “It’s true. I totally am. You’re my boyfriend.”

Bertinelli recently touched on her previous marriage to Eddie Van Halen in her new cookbook, “Indulge,” which was released on April 12.

“Though we got divorced, Ed and I never stopped loving each other,” she wrote in the book. She added wistfully, “Who knows, if not for cancer, we might have had a second wind.”

Regarding her relationship with Goodnough, Bertinelli explained that she began following him on social media around 2016 or 2017, and he followed her back in 2018. Their interaction escalated into direct messaging after her divorce from Tom Vitale in 2022.

“He’s a really super funny, incredibly talented writer,” she said of Goodnough.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE Magazine, Bertinelli shared her feelings about her new romance: “I’m in love. It’s a seesaw of emotions because I was adamant I was never falling in love again.”
