The country music world is mourning the loss of a true legend. Jeannie Seely, a beloved Grand Ole Opry member known affectionately as “Miss Country Soul,” passed away on August 1st, 2025, at the age of 85.

Her publicist, Don Murray Grubbs, confirmed that Seely died at Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, Tennessee due to complications from an intestinal infection. Her passing comes just weeks after celebrating her 85th birthday.

Jeannie Seely’s Final Health Battle

In the months leading up to her death, Seely endured multiple health challenges. According to her publicist’s statement, she underwent several back surgeries earlier this year to repair damaged vertebrae. Shortly after, she required two emergency abdominal surgeries, followed by 11 days in the intensive care unit. She also battled a serious case of pneumonia in her final weeks.

Despite these struggles, Jeannie remained a symbol of strength and grace—a sentiment echoed by those who knew and loved her.

A Record-Breaking Grand Ole Opry Career

Jeannie Seely made history as the artist with the most performances in Grand Ole Opry history, with an astonishing 5,397 appearances. Her dedication to country music and her unwavering presence at the Opry spanned more than five decades.

Born in Pennsylvania, Jeannie brought soul and sincerity to every performance. She inspired countless young artists, offering mentorship, encouragement, and friendship over the years.

Dolly Parton’s Heartfelt Tribute

Country superstar Dolly Parton took to social media to express her grief and honor her longtime friend. In a post shared with her 7.8 million Instagram followers, Dolly wrote:

“I have known Jeannie Seely since we were early on in Nashville. She was one of my dearest friends. I think she was one of the greater singers in Nashville and she had a wonderful sense of humor.
We had many wonderful laughs together, cried over certain things together and she will be missed.”
