Demi Moore Praises Bruce Willis’ Wife Emma Heming Willis for Her Strength and Caregiving
|Actress Demi Moore has spoken out in support of her ex-husband Bruce Willis’ wife, Emma Heming Willis, praising her for the strength and compassion she has shown while caring for the actor during his ongoing health struggles with frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
Demi Moore’s Words of Support
On the September 2 episode of Oprah Winfrey’s podcast, Demi reflected on Emma’s role as Bruce’s primary caregiver.
“Being the ex-wife, even though our family is very connected, is an interesting position,” Demi said. “So much fell on Emma to really figure this whole thing out, and the most beautiful thing was recognizing the importance for caregivers and that they have to take care of themselves. If they don’t put that time into making sure that they’re okay, then they can’t show up for anyone else.”
Demi, who shares three daughters with Bruce — Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah — highlighted the courage Emma has shown in the face of difficult circumstances.
“I have so much compassion for Emma in this, being a young woman,” Demi continued. “There’s no way that anybody could have anticipated where this was going to go, and I really think she’s done a masterful job. She has been so dedicated to forging the right path. She’s had equal amounts of fear and strength and courage in navigating this.”
Emma Heming Willis’ Update on Bruce’s Health
In August, Emma shared a heartfelt update about Bruce’s condition. She explained that while the actor, now 69, continues to face challenges, moments of his personality still shine through.
“The language is going, and, you know, we’ve learned to adapt,” Emma said. “And we have a way of communicating with him, which is just a different way.”
She added that Bruce still shows glimpses of his old self:
“Not days, but we get moments. It’s his laugh, right? Like, he has such, like, a hearty laugh. And, you know, sometimes you’ll see that twinkle in his eye, or that smirk, and, you know, I just get, like, transported.”
Bruce Willis was first diagnosed with aphasia in 2022, a condition that affects communication. In February 2023, his family revealed that his condition had progressed to frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a more serious form of cognitive decline. The diagnosis led to his retirement from acting.
Bruce and Emma share two daughters together — Mabel (13) and Evelyn (11).

Advocating for Dementia Awareness
Since Bruce’s diagnosis, Emma Heming Willis has stepped forward as a strong advocate for dementia awareness and caregiver support. In March 2023, she attended the AFTD Hope Rising Benefit in New York City, which raised vital funds for dementia research and support services.
At 49, Emma has also written a book about caregiving, aiming to help families who are navigating similar journeys. On her website, she explains her mission:
“Caring for yourself while caring for someone else is one of the hardest, most heartbreaking challenges you’ll ever face. It’s easy to lose your sense of self. Through my own experience and insights from leading experts, I want to help care partners feel less alone, better prepared, and empowered to navigate this journey with strength and support.”
