Pierce Brosnan always has his wife’s back: Inside his marriage with Keely

Despite his onscreen persona as a charming ladies’ man, Pierce Brosnan is, in reality, a devoted husband and family man.

Pierce Brosnan’s relationship with his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, a journalist, author, and TV host, is one to aspire to.

Even after over 25 years together, their passion for each other remains strong. Their enduring marriage demonstrates that true love can persist through fame, age, and physical changes.

Pierce and Keely have been best friends, companions, and lovers for nearly 30 years. They began dating in 1994 and married seven years after meeting at a bar in Mexico.

Keely met Pierce when she was sent to interview Ted Danson but ended up connecting with Pierce instead.

Their first date was like a scene from a romance movie. Keely recalls, “We sat under the stars, and he held my hand. Fireworks were going off overhead, and Kenny Loggins was singing. We talked until 3 in the morning.”

“Tall, dark, and handsome, with a mischievous sparkle in his eyes. I thought, ‘Wow! Wow!’”

Pierce immediately recognized Keely’s special qualities.

“I love her vitality, her passion. She has a strength I can’t live without. When Keely looks at me, I go weak,” he said.

Their romantic wedding took place in Ireland in 2001.

Initially, the couple planned to marry in 2000, but Pierce’s 16-year-old son was involved in a traffic accident in the USA, suffering a spinal injury, which postponed the wedding.

Ultimately, they had their dream wedding at Ashford Castle, a beautiful 13th-century Irish fortress. They invited 120 close friends and family and ensured intense security to keep the media and public away.

Raising sons together Pierce and Keely have two sons and share a passion for nature, working to protect marine life and prevent whaling.

Their sons were born soon after they started dating, solidifying their bond.

Keely has balanced her career with taking excellent care of their children. She has also been a loving stepmother to Pierce’s children from his previous marriage to Cassandra Harris, who passed away from cancer in 1991.

Pierce recently played Dr. Fate in the sci-fi action movie “Black Adam,” portraying a superhero and sorcerer in the DC Universe.

During filming, the 69-year-old actor kept personal items from his real life, including his wedding ring and a watch Keely gifted him.

“This is our wedding ring and this is a watch that Keely bought me many years ago with an inscription that [reads], ‘Time flies on love’s wings,’” he explained, adding, “I decided to wear it for this character. It seemed appropriate.”

Pierce felt it fitting since his character had a wife too. “The man [has] traversed the ages of time. He’s one of the most powerful sorcerers in the DC comic book world. He did have a wife called Enza, and she was even more powerful than him I hear.”

Keely was thrilled by her husband’s sweet tribute in his latest film project. “I love those emblems, that he took those with him into the superpower, superhero realm,” she said.
