Chrissy Metz, 45, Looks Noticeably Different After Quietly Changing Her Mind About One Treatment
The actress, who previously opposed weight-loss medication, now appreciates its benefits. In her 40s, she claims it has lessened her ‘food noise,’ enhanced her mobility, and allowed her to manage eight live performances a week.
Chrissy Metz is sharing her story of transformation as recent images reflect a noticeable shift in her appearance, following years of battling weight issues and skepticism towards medication.
In August 2026, the ‘This Is Us’ star announced that she began a GLP-1 treatment after much contemplation. This choice came after numerous attempts to find effective solutions that did not yield the desired results.
Metz explained to People, ‘My goal was simply to take care of myself.’ At 45, she acknowledged that her health issues were becoming increasingly significant.
‘I’m not getting any younger,’ she mentioned. ‘With family history of obesity and my father’s struggles, I’ve explored various methods, including diets and therapy, none of which truly worked for me.’

Initially, she approached treatment with hesitance, recalling, ‘I was adamant about not taking this medication. I didn’t think it would work for me.’ However, her experience proved to be unexpectedly positive.
‘It’s been fantastic!’ Metz exclaimed. She noted that the treatment has improved her mobility, alleviated joint pain and inflammation, and made it easier to fulfill the physical demands of her role as Angélique in Broadway’s ‘& Juliet.’
Motivated by positive medical results, she emphasized her commitment to healthier choices. Additionally, she is focused on not allowing the number on the scale to dictate her journey.
‘I realize it’s not a magic solution, and I need to adapt other aspects of my life. I’ve been collaborating with a trainer to lift weights and build muscle,’ she explained, expressing her desire to evaluate her progress based on how she feels rather than a specific number.
‘I want to feel strong and not let a bad day start because of the scale showing a number I don’t like,’ she added.
Metz anticipates criticism regarding her body choices. ‘People are judgmental when it comes to me,’ she said with humor.
She acknowledged that public scrutiny began even before she started her treatment and may continue. However, she now feels those opinions hold no weight for her. ‘They aren’t part of my life or my doctor’s notes, nor are they related to my family’s hereditary issues,’ she remarked.

‘This decision is entirely mine; it’s about doing what’s best for me. I need to disregard negativity and focus on surrounding myself with kind, supportive individuals. I refuse to engage with anything that doesn’t uplift me,’ she asserted.
During a recent appearance on ‘TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle,’ Metz elaborated on one significant effect of the treatment.
She explained that she only realized the term ‘food noise’ when she noticed how much mental energy food consumed in her life. ‘I used to constantly think about meals, and now it’s much quieter in my head,’ she said.
This clarity was particularly evident during her travels with friends. ‘When I went to Italy, I wasn’t fixated on food but was fully present with my friends and our experiences. I had never felt this way before,’ Metz shared.
The actress’s weight concerns trace back many years. In the interview, she disclosed that she grappled with weight issues starting at age 9 and joined Weight Watchers at 11.
Her busy Broadway schedule also offers her a comparison point for her current state versus six months prior.
‘Honestly, six months ago, I doubt I would have managed running around a Broadway stage for eight shows a week if I hadn’t been experiencing the benefits from this medication,’ Metz reflected.
The fast-paced nature of the production has contributed to her feeling more physically capable, with the show challenging her more than past roles.
‘It’s the most demanding role I’ve ever taken on, but it brings me immense joy,’ she stated. Her commitment to increasing her strength began even before she publicly mentioned using the GLP-1.
In an April 2025 interview with the Daily Mail, Metz discussed her dedication to weight training and strength exercises, expressing a preference for lifting over running.
She also acknowledged her desire to manage how her body ages. ‘I want to age gracefully and maintain my strength,’ Metz noted.
At that time, she had not revealed her use of GLP-1, instead emphasizing that decisions about medication should remain personal. ‘It’s crucial to destigmatize these choices,’ she remarked, encouraging individuals to determine what is suitable for their own bodies.
Reports indicate that Metz previously shed about 100 pounds after gaining a similar amount during a challenging period marked by depression.
Following a panic attack at 30, she adopted a daily 2,000-calorie diet and walked for 20 minutes a day, achieving her weight loss in under five months.
Her current weight loss due to GLP-1 is a separate achievement, with the digital health company Ro stating she has lost 63 pounds while on this treatment.
Metz also highlighted the practical benefits from her partnership with the company. ‘The convenience of having the medication delivered to my door is thrilling, and the healthcare team really stays in touch with you. It’s much harder to reach a doctor these days!’ she said.
As her weight loss becomes increasingly visible, online users have begun to compare her present look with past photos.
One Facebook user commented, ‘Good for her! Anything that enhances your health is fantastic. She looks incredible. Congratulations and best wishes for the future [sic].’
‘She hasn’t mentioned how this impacted her weight. I’m glad her inflammation is under control but curious if she’s also losing weight??’ another user expressed. A different commenter added, ‘Excited to see your final results. You are a beautiful woman.’
On another Facebook thread, an individual noted, ‘You can definitely see a difference from a few years ago. Slow and steady wins the race.’
Another comment read, ‘Definitely a noticeable change! Just think of losing 100 pounds and how fantastic that must feel! I wonder how that works with excess skin, but it seems like Jelly Roll managed to lose weight without that issue [sic]??? 🤔’
A different commenter praised, ‘Good for her! That’s amazing.’ The images highlighting Metz’s journey reflect the evolution of her appearance, with recent photos prompting discussions regarding her weight loss.
