Fans divided after Angelina Jolie, 49, debuts fresh look at at awards show with draped gown and new hair color

Angelina Jolie may be embroiled in a contentious battle with ex-husband Brad Pitt, but she looked as radiant as ever at the 2024 Tony Awards.

Accompanied by her 15-year-old daughter Vivienne, Jolie attended the 77th Tony Awards at the Lincoln Center in New York on June 16. Both mother and daughter wore stunning green outfits for the occasion.

Jolie’s eye-catching, floor-length dress and her apparent new hair color have sparked mixed reactions online. It seems there’s always something to say about celebrity choices these days.

Despite the ongoing drama between Jolie and Brad Pitt, Angelina and Vivienne were all smiles at the Tony Awards. Vivienne sported a green suit, while Angelina wowed in a flowing velvet gown of sea-foam green with a draped, off-the-shoulder neckline and intricate ruching across the bodice, highlighting her natural beauty.

The Tomb Raider star completed her look with neutral makeup and gold hoop earrings. Vogue Magazine praised their appearance on Instagram, calling it “a united mother-daughter fashion moment that completely stole the show.”

Fashion designer Donatella Versace also shared a picture of the pair, revealing some history behind Jolie’s dress. “You look so beautiful. I love that you celebrate Atelier Versace craftsmanship,” Versace said. “This dress was created in 2013, and I remember you had huge creative input in the design… Artists supporting artists is so important!”

As expected in today’s digital age, Jolie’s outfit was quickly scrutinized online, with opinions divided.

“One of the most beautiful dresses I have ever seen,” one fan wrote.

“Angelina looks so stunning with honey blonde hair,” added another.

“She looks great & the dress is sitting just right. Def agree that darker hair would’ve really brought the look together!” commented a third.

However, not all feedback was positive.

“Angelina looks like a velvet drape curtain,” one critic wrote on Instagram.

“That dress reminds me of old fashion curtains/drapes….ugh looks heavy,” said another.

“Stylish? They look frumpy, both of them,” a third person remarked on Facebook.

Despite the mixed reviews, the night was a success for Jolie, who won her first Tony Award as a producer for the musical The Outsiders. The production took home four awards in total, including Outstanding Lighting Design, Outstanding Lighting Design of a Musical, Outstanding Sound Design of a Musical, and Best Direction of a Musical. Vivienne, recognized as a producer’s assistant for the musical, also received acknowledgment for her contributions.
