Jimmy Kimmel reveals 7-year-old Son Billy underwent third open heart surgery – comedian shares heartfelt message

Jimmy Kimmel has been candid about the health issues his 7-year-old son has faced since his birth in 2017. Recently, the comedian shared that his son underwent another significant surgery, marking the third major procedure in his young life.

On Monday, Kimmel took to Instagram to update his followers. He posted a photo of his son, Billy, smiling in a hospital room, and shared a heartfelt message in the caption.

“This weekend, our boy Billy had his third (and hopefully final) open-heart surgery. We approached this with a mix of optimism and fear, but we came out with a healthy, happy kid sporting a new valve,” Kimmel wrote.

Kimmel expressed gratitude towards Billy’s surgeon and the medical team at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where Billy was treated. He also acknowledged the other parents he met at the hospital, noting how their stories had a profound impact on him.

In addition to the medical staff, Kimmel thanked his wife, family, and friends for their unwavering support. “Thanks to the loving strangers who prayed and sent positive energy, and to our family and friends who rallied around us more than we could have ever expected. And to my wife Molly, who has shown an extraordinary strength,” he continued.

Kimmel ended his post with a touching message for his son: “Billy, you are the toughest (and funniest) 7-year-old we know. There are many parents and children who aren’t as fortunate to go home after five days. Please keep them in your hearts, and if you feel moved, support @ChildrensLA or a local children’s hospital. Nothing is more important than taking care of each other. With love and gratitude, Jimmy.”

Many of Kimmel’s celebrity friends showed their support in the comments. Carson Daly wrote, “We love you Billy,” while Andy Cohen added, “Love to Billy.”

Back in 2017, Kimmel emotionally shared in a monologue that his son was born with a heart defect. The story resonated widely, and Kimmel has consistently thanked those involved in Billy’s medical care over the years.

In April, Kimmel celebrated Billy’s 7th birthday with a heartfelt message and an update on his health. “Billy turns 7 today and is doing great thanks to the doctors, nurses, therapists, and staff at @ChildrensLA & @CedarsSinai,” he wrote. “Billy is asking friends ‘to give $7 because I’m seven to help kids in the hospital.’ His goal is ‘to raise $100 to help sick kids.’ If you’d like to donate, thank you.”

He posted a close-up of Billy smiling, adding, “This boy is seven years old because of you. Molly and I are overwhelmed by your generous donations and kind messages. Thank you for all the love. We wish you and your families good health and great friends.”

Kimmel and his wife, Molly McNearney, also share a 9-year-old daughter named Jane. Kimmel has two children from his previous marriage to Gina Maddy.
