Reba McEntire, 68, sparks criticism with new hairdo

Reba McEntire, the esteemed figure in country music, recently stirred up social media with her latest hairstyle, sparking fervent reactions from her fanbase.

Nevertheless, this recent alteration to her hair is not the first time the iconic star has ventured into different looks.

Recognized for her vibrant red curls and commanding stage presence, McEntire boldly departed from her customary style, embracing a sleeker hairstyle that elicited varied feedback from the public.

At 68 years old, she unveiled her transformed appearance in a light-hearted Instagram video, playfully exploring the dressing room of The Voice judges Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney, known as the pop duo Dan + Shay, during the show’s 25th season.

Although the intention of the video was to showcase McEntire’s comedic side, it inadvertently brought attention to her new hairdo.

Critics swiftly voiced their opinions, with comments ranging from critiques like “Her hair looks terrible. Makes her look old,” to observations such as “Not loving the hairstyle. Too flat on your head like a helmet.”

Some even urged McEntire to revert to her previous look, with one comment bluntly stating: “Girl, this hairstyle is not you. Go back to the old Reba with fluffy hair. Much more attractive on you.”

Even devoted fans expressed disappointment with the new look, commenting “Love ya but this flat hair has to go,” and “You are beautiful but the haircut [is] not you.”

Throughout her illustrious career, McEntire has been synonymous with her curly, voluminous hair, emblematic of her vibrant personality both on and off stage.

Reflecting on her iconic hair in a past interview with the Dallas Voice from 2015, McEntire disclosed: “I can’t get [my stylist] Brett Freedman to get it that high anymore! My good friend Shane Tarleton is always saying, ‘Get that big hair out.’”

Despite the mixed reactions to her latest hairstyle, Reba McEntire evidently approaches self-expression fearlessly! While some may prefer the “old Reba” with her fluffy curls, I believe her new hairstyle beautifully showcases her dynamic personality!
