Robert De Niro’s Son Aaron Turns Heads in Rare NYC Outing — Fans React to His Bold Fashion Statement

Social media lit up with commentary after one of Robert De Niro’s rarely-seen sons was spotted out in New York, debuting a head-turning look that got everyone talking.

Aaron De Niro, one of De Niro’s twin sons with Toukie Smith, made a rare public appearance that quickly drew attention. With pink dreadlocks cascading from beneath a black headscarf and a head-to-toe dark ensemble, the 29-year-old showcased a bold new aesthetic.

This fresh look stood in contrast to his previous public sightings, where he sported natural curls. On this occasion, he wore an oversized black hoodie, paired with patterned leggings featuring a mix of floral and geometric designs. Black lace-up heeled boots and a leather backpack with pink detailing added flair to his outfit, reflecting a confident and artistic sense of style.

Aaron’s appearance instantly sparked discussion online. Some admired his expressive fashion sense, while others speculated about his intentions or commented on his connection to his famous father.

One user defended his individuality: “Everyone deserves the freedom to dress how they please. Not everything needs to be overanalyzed.” Another echoed the sentiment, writing, “He’s grown. Let the man wear what he wants.”

Others focused on specific elements, including his hairstyle or accessories. Comments ranged from “Love the boots!” to “He looks just like Toukie.” But the response wasn’t all positive — some questioned his style choices, with one commenter writing, “Doing it for attention. Nothing new.”

Some even criticized the attention the photos were getting at all, pointing out that many celebrity children choose to lead private lives and shouldn’t be targeted for their appearances.

Though Aaron has kept a low profile, the renewed interest in him and his fashion sparked curiosity about the private lives of De Niro’s children. Born via surrogate in 1995, Aaron and his twin brother Julian are the sons of Robert De Niro and Toukie Smith, an actress and restaurateur who was De Niro’s longtime partner.

Even after separating, Robert and Toukie remained committed to co-parenting, with De Niro’s rep at the time confirming they would continue to raise their children together.

Aaron hasn’t pursued a full-time career in Hollywood but did lend his voice to a character in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run in 2020, appearing alongside stars like Tiffany Haddish, Awkwafina, and Keanu Reeves.

Despite his own success in film, Robert De Niro has always encouraged his kids to choose their own path. In past interviews, he’s shared that what matters most is that they’re fulfilled, not whether they follow in his footsteps.

“I always tell them—if acting or anything else makes you happy, go for it. Just don’t settle for less,” he once said.

As a father of seven, De Niro has spoken candidly about how becoming a parent changed his worldview. He’s opened up about the unique challenges of raising biracial children and how those concerns have deepened his perspective—especially when it comes to social justice and safety.

De Niro’s family includes his oldest children, Drena and Raphael, with first wife Diahnne Abbott, his twins Julian and Aaron with Toukie Smith, Elliot and Helen with ex-wife Grace Hightower, and his youngest, whom he welcomed with partner Tiffany Chen.

As for Aaron, he continues to live mostly outside the spotlight—but when he does step into public view, he’s not afraid to do it on his own terms.
