Reba Tearfully Describes “Precious” Relationship With Late Stepson Brandon Blackstock

Country music icon Reba McEntire is mourning the heartbreaking loss of her beloved stepson, Brandon Blackstock, who passed away on August 7 after a private, three-year battle with skin cancer.

Brandon was just a child when Reba married his father, Narvel Blackstock, in 1989. Over the years, Reba helped raise Brandon and his sisters, Shawna and Chassidy, alongside her and Narvel’s son, Shelby. Even after Reba and Narvel divorced in 2015, the Fancy singer remained a constant presence in Brandon’s life — referring to him not as a “stepson,” but as her own “blood.”

Reba’s Emotional Tribute to Brandon

When news of Brandon’s passing broke, Reba shared a deeply emotional statement on social media:

“Last week, my stepson/oldest son Brandon Blackstock went home to be with God. His struggle is over and he is in eternal peace in God’s presence. There is no one else like him, and I’m thankful for the time we had together. His legacy and laughter will be carried on through his family. Rest in peace cowboy. Happy trails to you till we meet again.”

Fans flooded Reba’s post with love and support, recognizing the special bond she had with Brandon throughout his life.

Reba Reflects on Why Brandon Was “Precious” to Her

In a recent PEOPLE cover interview, Reba spoke through tears about her relationship with Brandon.

“I absolutely loved that child. He came into my life, I guess when he was 4 years old. Then when Narvel and I got married, he was 13 or 14,” Reba recalled.

She continued:

“Along with his mom and dad, I helped raise him, along with [his sisters] Shawna and Chassidy. They were my kids.”

Reba described Brandon as having a wonderful sense of humor and a gift for making people laugh. She fondly remembered how he once jumped out from behind a pillar to startle one of Narvel’s employees — a classic Brandon prank that left everyone smiling.

“Brandon is sorely missed, truly missed with his mischievousness and his love of life,” Reba said. “He brought joy to everybody that met him, and we’ll never forget him.”

As she reflected on the years of laughter, love, and family they shared, one thing was clear — Brandon will forever hold a “precious” place in her heart.

May Brandon’s memory continue to bring comfort, joy, and love to everyone who knew him.
