Elton John, 77, reveals scary health update, severe infection leaves singer partially blind

Throughout the course of a career spanning over fifty years, Elton John has dominated Hollywood, Broadway, and the music industry.

However, the singer of “I’m Still Standing” has faced a number of significant health issues in recent years. Most recently, he disclosed on social media that he has “limited vision in one eye.”

The five-time Grammy winner, who will celebrate 34 years sober in July 2024, had an extremely close call with appendicitis in 2013 and proceeded with his European tour despite being in “agony.”

I had a time bomb on my hands. The singer, who is currently 77 years old, remarked, “I guess I could have died at any time.”

And then in 2017, after surgery for prostate cancer, he experienced potentially fatal side effects.

When speaking of the terrifying experience, John, then 72, stated, “I didn’t really know how close to death I was.” “I was sick because I constantly asking for help to get better. I’d like to see my children. However, I had tubes coming out of every part of my body, and when I returned home, it took me seven weeks to heal.

John subsequently revealed on social media that he had to reschedule his 2021 European tour dates to 2023 due to a hip issue.

The father of two said, “I am forced to reschedule the 2021 dates of my Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in Europe and the U.K. to 2023 with great sadness and a heavy heart.”

“Since my unsteady fall on a hard surface at the conclusion of my summer break, I’ve been experiencing severe hip pain and discomfort.To ensure there are no long-term issues and to return me to full fitness, I have been recommended to have an operation as soon as feasible.

In closing, he thanks his followers on September 16, 2021, saying, “It breaks my heart to keep you waiting any longer, I completely understand your frustrations after the year we’ve had.”

Limited vision

The “Rocket Man” singer informed his 8 million followers on social media on September 3, 2024, that he had a “severe eye infection” that had seriously affected his vision.

I’ve had a serious eye illness throughout the summer, which has regrettably left me with very poor eyesight in one eye. The EGOT winner writes, “I’m healing, but it’s a very slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the affected eye.” (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Awards)

He continues by saying that he’s feeling “positive about the progress” and that he’s “quietly recuperating at home.”

The “Sacrifice” singer received a plethora of kind wishes from fans who jumped into the comments area.

“Dear Elton John, your music and all of your endeavors, especially your advocacy work, have brought us so much joy,” begins a netizen. “I’m sending you good vibes and prayers for a full recovery on your healing journey!”

“You are such a wonderful man!!” says the second. I hope your recuperation goes smoothly! I listen to you every day, and you are an idol!

Meanwhile, a number of famous pals seized the chance to express their affection on the same Instagram post.

“Elton, you have my undying love! Soon, feel better. Love you, Donatella Versace, the icon of Italian fashion writes.

Billie Jean King, a former tennis pro, says, “Sending our love and support your way.” I hope you soon feel well, friend.

“Sir Elton, get well soon,” begins Carnie Wilson, the leading lady of The Beach Boys, Brian Wilson’s daughter. Then she goes on, mentioning John’s 1973 hit song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” from the album, “Daddy and I were watching your concert together yesterday.” His favorite show was “Bennie and the Jets.”
