Alan Jackson Concert Erupts After He Urges Fans To “Climb Those Fences”
|Alan Jackson’s headlining performance at the Two Step Inn music festival in Georgetown, Texas, on Saturday, April 5, took an unexpected turn when the legendary country artist encouraged fans to “climb over them fences” and enjoy the moment freely. The concert was briefly shut down following his remarks.
Performing in front of a packed audience, Jackson delivered a high-energy set as part of his farewell Last Call: One More for the Road tour. The appearance marked his debut and likely final performance at the renowned Two Step Inn festival, as the 66-year-old artist prepares for retirement.

The moment of controversy arose during his performance of the 2008 hit “Good Time.” While engaging the crowd, Jackson encouraged fans to leave their seats and come closer, saying, “Climb over them fences and dance up and down these aisles. I don’t care. Let’s have a good time.”
Fan captured footage shows the singer joyfully interacting with the crowd as attendees began jumping over barriers and dancing near the stage. At one point, Jackson addressed a security guard, saying, “Come on, man. Let the girl dance.” He later returned to the mic and addressed the audience with an apology:
“Sorry, y’all. I was just wantin’ to have a good time.”
However, event organizers responded quickly. As fans gathered in restricted areas, security concerns led officials to cut Jackson’s microphone and pause the concert for approximately five to seven minutes. The reaction sparked debate among attendees and on social media, with many defending Jackson’s intentions and criticizing the interruption.
One concertgoer commented, “The five-minute pause really ruined the vibe. If no one was getting hurt, why stop the show?” Another wrote, “If Alan says it’s not a security issue, it ain’t a security issue.”
Others voiced their disappointment directly at the organizers, calling the move “disrespectful” and accusing the festival of “ruining one of his final shows in Texas.”
Amid the disruption, the night also offered a touching and unforgettable moment: Jackson invited his wife of 45 years, Denise, to join him on stage during his performance of “Remember When.” As the band continued playing, he stepped away from the mic and danced slowly with her in front of the crowd, sharing a kiss before returning to finish the song.
Denise has been a visible presence throughout Alan’s farewell tour, often seen in the audience and praised by her husband during shows. The couple, married since 1979, has openly shared their journey through challenges and triumphs with Alan often crediting Denise not only for her support but for helping launch his career by connecting him with George Jones.
In a 2008 interview, Denise offered insight into the foundation of their lasting relationship: “Even if it’s just getting up 30 minutes before the kids in the morning, having coffee together, or sitting on the porch in the afternoon it’s about making time for each other.”
Alan Jackson’s farewell tour continues with only two stops remaining: April 26 in Tampa, Florida, and May 17 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
