Dolly Parton Refuses to Hide Her Faith: ‘I Ask God to Shine Through Me’
|Dolly Parton Was Born to Share Her Faith with the World
Dolly Parton is more than just a music icon; she is a woman of unwavering faith who proudly speaks about her relationship with God. No matter how famous she becomes or how loud her critics are, Dolly says she will never hide her faith. In her own words: “I ask God to shine through me.”
The legendary country star recently joined Khloé Kardashian on her popular Khloé in Wonder Land podcast for a heartfelt conversation about her incredible music career, her current projects, and, most importantly, her deep faith in God.
Faith Has Always Been Part of Dolly’s Life
Dolly’s spiritual journey started early. She was raised in the Church of God, where her grandfather served as the preacher. Music and faith were constants in her childhood. Her grandfather played the fiddle, and Dolly, along with her 11 siblings, would often perform gospel songs at local churches throughout their community.
Despite her religious upbringing, Dolly explained to Khloé Kardashian that she eventually had to find her own path to faith. She recalled with humor that she was “saved about 15 times” as a child and baptized more than once because she was so fearful of not being right with God. She grew up hearing strong messages about salvation, sin, and the afterlife, which shaped her early perceptions of faith.
“My grandpa was a preacher, and we were Pentecostal. That’s that hell, fire and brimstone. Lord, if you don’t get saved tonight, you might leave this world unprepared. I was scared every time they had an altar call. I must’ve gotten saved 15 times, but never really in church,” Dolly shared.

A Personal Encounter with God in an Unlikely Place
Dolly recounted a special, very personal moment of finding faith. Near her home was an abandoned old church, long forgotten and used for activities far removed from worship. Despite its state, Dolly felt a spiritual presence there. Alone in that broken-down building, surrounded by graffiti and an old, broken piano, she prayed to God in her own words, asking Him to help her and show her the way.
“There was an old abandoned church house down below us. It still had Bible verses on the walls, even though people used it for drinking and other things. I’d go there alone, and I felt something there. That’s where I prayed, asking God to show me the way. That’s where I found peace.”
For Dolly, that abandoned church became sacred ground. It wasn’t about the place itself but about the personal encounter she had with God there.

Dolly Parton Will Never Hide Her Faith, No Matter What People Say
Over the years, Dolly Parton has faced criticism from some people who believe she should keep her faith private. But Dolly has never wavered. In fact, she feels called to speak openly about her beliefs in hopes that her experiences might inspire others.
“Even if I knew there was no God, I’d still choose to believe, because I want to believe there’s something greater than us. People tell me, ‘You shouldn’t talk about that.’ I say, ‘Yes, I should.’ I’m not telling anyone what to believe. I’m just sharing what works for me,” Dolly explained.
She also shared that she prays constantly for God’s light to shine through her. If her words or actions can help someone else find hope or faith, then she believes she’s fulfilling her purpose.
“If God can shine through me, and I ask Him to all the time, maybe someone can see something in me that leads them to faith. I just hope I can do some good in the world.”
Still Breaking Records and Making History
Beyond her faith, Dolly Parton remains one of the most influential and beloved women in entertainment history. Her recent announcement of a Las Vegas Residency proves her star power has not dimmed. Ticketmaster and Caesars Palace both confirmed the news with official announcements, stating that demand for tickets far exceeded expectations. This limited series of performances, set to take place later this year, will feature some of the most iconic songs from Dolly’s legendary seven-decade career.
While details about the show’s full content remain under wraps, fans can expect a celebration of everything that has made Dolly Parton an enduring superstar: faith, family, music, and resilience.
