Emma Heming Willis Launches the Emma & Bruce Willis Fund to Support Dementia Research
A meaningful initiative inspired by a personal journey
Emma Heming Willis, wife of actor Bruce Willis, has announced the launch of the Emma & Bruce Willis Fund, an initiative designed to support dementia research and provide resources for families and caregivers affected by the disease. The announcement was made during the Hope Rising Benefit, an event focused on raising awareness and funding for frontotemporal degeneration research.
The new fund reflects the family’s personal experience following Bruce Willis’ diagnosis with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a progressive neurological condition that affects behavior, communication, and cognitive abilities. Through this initiative, Emma hopes to raise awareness about the disease and support efforts aimed at improving treatment and care.

Understanding Bruce Willis’ diagnosis
Bruce Willis first stepped away from acting in 2022 after being diagnosed with aphasia, a language disorder that affects a person’s ability to communicate. In 2023, his family shared that doctors had determined the underlying cause of his symptoms was frontotemporal dementia.
Frontotemporal dementia is a condition that primarily affects the frontal and temporal areas of the brain, which control personality, behavior, and language. The disease often progresses gradually and can significantly impact both patients and their families.
Since the diagnosis became public, the Willis family has spoken openly about the challenges of living with the condition, helping bring greater awareness to a disease that many people previously knew little about.
The mission of the Emma & Bruce Willis Fund
The newly launched fund aims to focus on several important areas:
-
Supporting scientific research into frontotemporal dementia and related conditions
-
Raising public awareness about the disease and its impact on families
-
Providing support and resources for caregivers, who often face emotional and practical challenges while caring for loved ones with dementia

Turning personal challenges into advocacy

By sharing her family’s story, she hopes to help other families feel less isolated and encourage broader conversations about the need for research and caregiver support.
A strong and supportive family
Emma Heming Willis and Bruce Willis married in 2009 and share two daughters together. Bruce also has three adult daughters from his previous marriage to actress Demi Moore.
