Neil Patrick Harris Opens Up About Parenthood: Why He Doesn’t Want to Know Which Twin Is Biologically His
|Beloved actor Neil Patrick Harris has been candid about many aspects of his life, but when it comes to parenting, one of his most remarkable choices is the one he and husband David Burtka made together not to know which of their 14-year-old twins is biologically his.

In a heartfelt interview, Harris revealed that both he and Burtka contributed sperm during the surrogacy process, and two embryos were successfully implanted, resulting in the birth of fraternal twins: Gideon and Harper. While they each have their suspicions, they’ve made a conscious decision not to confirm which child is genetically related to whom.

“I have no interest in finding out,” Harris shared. “We are their parents. That’s all that matters. I love them implicitly.”

Now 14, Gideon and Harper have grown up in a household rooted in love, openness, and balance. Harris and Burtka have long prioritized emotional support and individuality over biological connections a stance that continues to resonate with many modern families.

Their decision is a powerful statement about the true nature of parenthood: that it’s defined not by DNA, but by presence, care, and unconditional love.
