Lauren Alaina Breaks Down in Tears While Honoring Her Late Father in Emotional Tribute

Country music star and “American Idol” alum Lauren Alaina broke down in tears on October 7, 2025, as she shared a deeply emotional social media video honoring her late father, Jerry Eugene (J.J.) Suddeth, who passed away in July 2024 at the age of 52.

In her heartfelt video, Alaina sat in her driveway surrounded by bags of her father’s clothes, sharing memories and encouraging those struggling with addiction to seek support. “If you’re struggling, there’s so many people who love you,” she said through tears. “Surround yourself with people who love you.”

Remembering Her Father’s Struggles and Strength

Lauren revealed that October 7 would have been her father’s 13th year of sobriety “if he had made it.” She tearfully shared that he relapsed before reaching his 12th anniversary and admitted, “I’m not even sure about his 11th. He relapsed and it’s a major contributing factor to why he’s no longer here with us.”

Holding back sobs, Alaina explained that she planned to choose some of her dad’s clothes to make a blanket for her daughter, while donating the rest to a veteran organization. “Maybe there’s a man out there who needs it,” she said, “who can wear my dad’s clothes and find hope. Find the hope that my dad couldn’t find.”

She concluded with a touching message:

Be kind to yourself, be kind to others. Life is so short. Take care of yourselves. There are people that love you. Don’t ever forget that.

In her post caption, she described her father as “a proud father and pawpaw, a proud Army veteran, smart, kind, and the funniest person I have ever met.” She added, “He always had the answer to any question I had. He is so missed. Love yourself and others.”
